The rain might have been pouring on the runway, but backstage at Dior’s Cruise 2019 show, its glam squad was on fire. Working with its latest release, the Dior Backstage beauty collection, they showcased the formulas influenced by backstage artistry. Designed by Creative and Image Director for Dior Make-Up, Peter Philips, he revealed, “This is a range inspired by make-up artists’ must-haves, available in shades for every skin tone, in buildable textures.” The collection features a foundation launching in 40 shades, two eye and eyebrow palettes, one face sculpting, one highlight and one lip palette, as well as 14 brushes. Available on June 1, the Middle East and France will be the first markets to launch Dior Backstage before the rest of the world.
“I created the Backstage line for today’s women so that they can easily achieve a really natural make-up look with a professional finish. This independent approach conveys the spirit of the Cruise collection, which is dedicated to the proud and beautiful Mexican Escaramuza horsewomen, who inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri,” explained Philips, “On the catwalk, this meant models in strong, timeless and chic make-up.”
Looking to a flawless base, the model’s skin was translucently sculpted with subtle shimmer and highlight. Eyes were kept simple with warm neutrals and a hint of shimmer, with eyebrows the focal point. To finish the look, lips were also kept natural with a gloss from the Dior Backstage Lip Palette offering an understated shine.
The true standout of the collection is the foundation, which offers an all-inclusive selection of shades. “The Backstage line contains the Face and Body Foundation in 16 different levels of intensity for six skin tones, which means 40 different colors that allow you to adapt it precisely to each complexion,” explains Philips. Featuring a light and waterproof formula, it proved its power on the runway, with models showcasing picture-perfect skin even sashaying through a rain shower. “It melts into the skin for an ultra-natural finish and a perfect, radiant complexion,” he finishes.
