Dalal Aldoub Shares Her Makeup Must-Haves

“You have to think of your makeup as an accessory to your outfit,” says Dalal Aldoub. “I love to express my mood through my makeup and my overall look,” the Kuwaiti fashion and makeup blogger known as @dalalid to her 2 million and counting Instagram followers explains of the makeup essentials she swears by. An avid product tester, the makeup maven admits she’s not afraid to be experimental when it comes to expressing herself through products. “Arab women are diverse with their makeup. We’re not opposed to new trends and we have this instant ability to make them work for our skin tones, weather conditions and culture.” She adds that she’s open to taking a less-is-more approach to her makeup routine, a trend she picked up from working backstage with Marc Jacobs at New York Fashion Week in February. “I realized that I should be appreciating my natural beauty.” Below, Aldoub opens up about the three items she can’t leave home without, her favorite beauty brands, and her role model.

Name check 3 things you never leave the house without?

Lipstick, Perfume and phone charger.

List your favorite beauty brands.

Too Faced, NYX, The Balm, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Benefit, Urban Decay. I honestly love them all and I have a favorite product from each brand.

Name two must-have products for summer.

STILA’s Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow and a liquid highlighter from any brand. A dewy face with glowing skin is the hottest trend for summer.

How do you take your makeup from day to night?

It depends on the outfit. If it’s simple, I’ll go for dark, smokey eyes or bold lips. If I’m wearing something with a lot of prints or accessories, I’ll keep my makeup minimal and use light and soft colors.

Who is your beauty inspiration?

Lisa Eldridge. She’s a makeup artist, YouTuber and the author of Face Paint. Her knowledge about makeup and the history of makeup is so inspiring.

What are some key lessons you learned since you began this entrepreneurial journey?

Organisation is the key to success. I also realised that I have the ability to change whatever I want by being the example. Another huge lesson I have learned is that working without passion is a waste of life.

Any advice you can give to an aspiring beauty or fashion blogger?

Don’t ever think that you made it. Always work on yourself because there’s always a new level you can reach.
