How to Wear Cream Eyeshadow, Fall’s Prettiest Statement

If the Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear runways could talk, they would say, ‘Eyeshadow is back— and it is bolder than ever.’ Marc Jacobs kicked off the trend in New York, after he sent his models down the runway with shimmery washes of purple and green pigments painted on lids. Weeks later in Paris, vivid prismatic eyeshadow was swept over eyes at Louis Vuitton. Meanwhile, saturated shades of electric purples, pinks, blues, and oranges were spotted at Nina Ricci, Anna Sui, and Jeremy Scott among others and all but heralded the long overdue end of the no makeup makeup trend (finally.)

But why wait until spring to sport look-at-me lids? This fall, eschew traditional quads and opt for effortless cream eyeshadow formulas. Unlike powder formulas, cream eyeshadows don’t leave a mess underneath your eyes, and they are easy to apply. Use your fingertip to hand paint your smokey eye . “Patting the cream shadow allows it to absorb into the skin and create a stain,” explains photographer and makeup artist Saeed Khalifa. Those who want to prevent smearing or creasing can take a cue from Vogue Arabia Editor-in-Chief, Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, who opts to mix her cream shadow with a powder formula for a budge-free pop of color. “Apply your cream eyeshadow as a base with your fingers; then, using a flat eyeshadow brush, pat your powder formula on top,” says Khalifa, emphasizing on patting the product on as opposed to swiping it. “This way, the color holds and becomes far more vibrant,” he explains.
