A sweep of lipstick can transform any look. That’s just the physical. What a coating of rouge can do for a person’s confidence and self-esteem is the real beauty of the practice. Celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury knows this only too well. “I have a 27-year study in the magical psychology of lipstick! During my 27-year career as a makeup artist, I have found that lipstick has this ability to pick you up when you are down and change your mood,” she explains. After meeting with Women for Women International, an organization helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives, this notion was furthered. Senior Vice President for Global Partnerships, Brita Fernandez Schmidt shared the story of women in conflict zones who were wearing lipstick as a symbol of defiance and womanhood with her.
This inspired Tilbury so much that she became a global ambassador for Women for Women in 2016. Since then she created her iconic Hot Lips collection to bring lipstick confidence to the world. The initial collection gave $2 from every lipstick sold to the organization during the first two months of sale and brought attention to the organization. She alongside her team also personally sponsored sisters through the charity’s year-long training programme, as well as many other activations. “Charlotte Tilbury’s support has helped hundreds of women survivors of war graduate from our year-long training programme with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. Our partnership has helped to inspire hope for the future for the women we serve, empowering them to become leaders and role models in their community,” says Fernandez Schmidt.
This year Charlotte Tilbury goes one step further pledging $1 million to Women for Women. The money will be donated through the sales of the Hot Lips lipstick collection between 2019 and 2022. With this, the launch of the Hot Lips 2 is announced. “When I created this range, I wanted to create a new color world for everyone – looking for gaps in the color spectrum and mixing the most nuanced, super flattering, super wearable shades! These shades have superpowers, they look incredible on everyone! I always envision the color and texture, and how they complement each other to make the shade even more unique and incredible,” explains Tilbury. Launching on June 26th in all Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Wonderlands in the Middle East donning your favorite lipstick just got all the more important.
