Last night the Golden Globes 2018 proved to be nothing other than an epic night for social activism as much as a reminder of the power of using fashion to make a serious statement. Hollywood’s leading lights took to the red carpet in black dresses in support of the #TimesUp movement that demands an end to sexual assault and systemic gender and racial inequality in work place. More than a dress code, it was a visual manifestation of people in high places coming to together and saying, “Me Too.”
Models Taylor Hill and Emily Ratajkowski joined the ranks of actors that opted for head-to-toe carbon colored threads by designer Alex Perry to rally in the movement. The models added a dose of color to their looks championing the beauty trend du jour: smoky red eyeshadow and amplified black mascara.
Vogue.me decodes the way the duo of models added extra personality and va va voom to their Golden Globes look with a garnet gaze…
Taylor’s Subtle Rouge Flick
Hill added a dash of color to her all-black, asymmetric with the help of celebrity makeup artist and Vogue Arabia contributor Hung Vanngo. Vanngo created a crimson smoked out look around the model’s piercing blue eyes and blended it into a smooth cat-eye. With a thinly-applied eyeliner flick and coat of flicky mascara, the supermodel completed the look with a perfect red pout and gently bronzed cheeks. A top knot added chill-factor to her look. Hill switched her lipstick for a dark Burgundy shade to attend the after-party – the beauty way to signal a ‘costume change’?
Emily’s Fully-Loaded Ruby Gaze
Vanngo expanded on the smoky garnet eye trend with model Emily Ratajkowski blending Marc Jacobs Beauty eyeshadow fully into the eye socket and underneath the lower lash line. With an extra dose of mascara to finish and subtle black eyeliner added to the inner eyelids, the overall look is dramatic and future-proof glamour at its most effective.
In the December issue of Vogue Arabia, the beauty desk uncovers the chic ways to wear build on this evocative makeup trend. See the inspirational shoot here. For more makeup ideas supplied by Vanngo, check out his masterclass for Vogue Arabia here.
