Duchess of Sussex Nods to the ’90s With Her New Poker-Straight Hair

The influence of the ‘90s on hair and beauty trends has grown steadily over recent seasons, and now has a new convert in the form of the Duchess of Sussex. Yes, for a visit to the Coach Core Awards at Loughborough University, which also saw her playing netball in stilettos, Meghan tried on one of the decade’s most enduring trends for size: poker-straight hair with graduated layers framing her face, à la Rachel Green circa Friends season five (a highlight, hair-wise).

The Duchess has, of course, made the messy bun something of a style signature, eschewing comparisons with her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge (owner of the bounciest blow-dry in the royal family). But since Meghan has been calling upon one of fashion’s favorite hairstylists, George Northwood, for her public appearances, can we expect a more trend-led take on beauty from the new royal? And, more intriguingly, can we expect that she’ll explore ‘90s beauty in her makeup too?

In reality, straightened hair and nude lip gloss – already one of her beauty staples – might be as far as she takes her new ‘90s beauty mood, but we’ll cross our fingers for glitter eyeshadow and contrasting lip liner regardless.
