She’s a world-renowned supermodel, but Gigi Hadid isn’t afraid to highlight what makes her unique. The 23-year-old took to Instagram this week, sharing a candid snapshot in which she embraced her sunspots. The slight pigmentation, which can develop due to sun exposure, could be seen adorning her makeup-free complexion, as she zoomed in on her face in the short clip. “Mamma I wear sunblock, I promise,” the half-Palestinian catwalk star captioned the Instagram Story, which she shared with her 41 million followers.

While we of course don’t condone skipping any SPF (as Gigi herself revealed she doesn’t), her clip offers a refreshing, inclusive message to her fans, urging them to embrace their natural beauty, supposed flaws and all. The model also referenced her on-off beau, British singer Zayn Malik, in the post, adding that “my baby says he likes my sunspots”. It is one of the first public confirmations from Hadid that the couple has rekindled their romance, months after announcing their split back in March.
Following two years together, the supermodel and the former One Directioner announced they had parted ways, with Malik asking his 26.9 million Twitter followers for privacy. “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,” the former One Direction singer wrote. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time.” Hadid echoed his sentiment minutes later, writing on her Twitter page: “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.” The model continued: “I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for.”

However following a series of social media posts that hinted at a reconciliation, Hadid was forced to defend her on-off relationship just last week. Responding to a social media account dedicated to exposing the “truth” about Hadid’s romance with the singer, the star revealed she “posts about my boyfriend like anyone else”. “Whether I support Z or he supports me is out of love and excitement for one another. There’s nothing to figure out all the time… give it a break,” wrote Hadid. “I really have no hard feelings towards you, I just know what a beautiful world there is to go out and live in instead of trying to dissect a relationship between two people that you don’t even know and that you do not see 99% of.”
