Dua Lipa Doesn’t Let Abu Dhabi’s Stormy Weather Dampen Her Style

Think of Elizabeth Taylor and one instant Old Hollywood beauty signature comes to mind. The iconic actress was synonymous with the winged-out cat eye look she often wore (which she masterfully applied herself with traditional liner, as seen in this viral video). Flash forward to today, though, and it takes a certain kind of rising ingenue to revive the retro-cool aesthetic in a way that feels entirely fresh, modern and daring.

Taking to Instagram, Dua Lipa shared a photo of her above-the-neck spin on throwback glamour as she jetted into Abu Dhabi to celebrate the Louvre’s first birthday. The singer took a thick, arched rimming of black kohl to the extreme, fanning it out toward the brow in an angular sweep, as well as along the inner corners of the eye. The dramatic application is a style more often seen on the runways (see Fendi’s recent couture show, for example), but Lipa’s latest snap proves how just how easily it can be taken to the streets. The takeaway? When trying on a bold new look worthy of a pop star, it’s all about fearlessly committing to it.

While the November 11 concert was rained off due to the UAE’s stormy weather, Lipa certainly didn’t let it dampen her style. “Sandstorm in Abu Dhabi cancelled the show but I won’t let it cancel this killer frock,” the star captioned her Instagram image. Missed out on the gig? Ticketholders were told to hang onto their passes, with a newly aligned date to be announced. “We are hoping to reschedule the concert and we will let everyone know the new date as soon as possible,” the museum posted on Twitter.
