When it comes to beauty, people tend to fall into two camps. The doers and the dreamers. This is particularly true when it comes to drastic hair changes. Yes, we are talking about the fabled bang. After months of sitting at home and staring in the mirror playing around with your locks, you may have come close to picking up the scissors. Some may have actually started snipping away. For those unsuccessful they will have been happy about lockdown and getting to hide out, for others they will undoubtedly have posted their success online. One such person is none other than pop icon Britney Spears.
Since March she’s been hinting on her social media platforms that she was considering the chop. On May 19 she even posted a love letter on Instagram. “I know I need bangs,” she began, adding, “I stopped having bangs in the 3rd grade and I remember like it was yesterday… it was such a big deal to expose my forehead… only pretty people in the south could do that and I never felt pretty enough to pull it off. All the beauty pageant girls did it, but I never felt beauty pageants were my thing… I had bad teeth and felt like an ugly duckling.”
She goes on to explain, “I met with a modeling agency but I wasn’t pretty enough so I went home and said, ‘maybe I can be like the older girls and show my forehead’” before adding, “I did and it looked sooooo bad but I thought I was gorgeous.” From then on, she always stuck to her bangs. It wasn’t all about looks for Spears though, with her concluding, “People choose different ways to protect themselves …. when I pull my bangs in front of my head, I feel like I’m protected … almost like I’m in 3rd grade again.” With everything going on in the world, it’s good to know that even the world’s biggest pop star can appreciate the transformative powers of a new hairstyle.
