Why You Should Opt for Biodegradable Glitter for Coachella

Photographed by Oliver Pedrosa

Nothing quite says festival beauty like injecting a fearless dose of light-catching glitter into your look. But those reaching for holographic granules to decorate their faces with this Coachella may want to consider going eco-friendly. According to environmentalists, glitter, which is made out of micro-plastic, is said to be making its way to our oceans and harming our marine wildlife in serious ways. Measuring less than five millimeters in length, micro-plastics, which never degrade, are being consumed by plankton, fish, shellfish, seabirds, and other marine life, causing them to die of starvation. But this doesn’t mean that you need to give up glitter for good. Fortunately, a number of eco-conscious beauty brands have taken to creating biodegradable alternatives to the non-compostable pollutants. Turning towards old-school ingredients from eucalyptus trees, these products won’t hurt the planet. Take your pick from our favorites below.
