Billie Eilish Just Debuted Baby Bangs and Jet-Black Hair

Warning: Billie Eilish will probably convince you to get bangs after reading this post.

While bangs are never truly out of style, the cut has had a resurgence this season—just this week Kesha debuted a new bob with bangs, while Kristen Stewart was seen with the very on-trend bottleneck bangs. Maybe it’s because bangs keep your forehead warm in winter? Whatever the case, Eilish is the latest celeb to debut the style.

More specifically, she went for baby bangs, which are very short and cropped above the eyebrow line. It creates an instantly dramatic look—the kind of ’do that requires upkeep but is worth the attention. And now I know which photo to show my hairstylist at my next appointment.

In a post on Instagram shared on Tuesday, February 1, Billie Eilish posted a selfie while seated an airplane, with a simple caption that is just the black square emoji, to match her new jet-black hair color.

The baby bangs are at the center of her forehead; on the sides, the bangs are cut a little longer to frame her face. Eilish actually sneakily debuted the new look last week in another IG post, but the lighting was a bit darker and the angle a bit farther away, so the transformation didn’t look as major.

Eilish has been experimenting with hairstyles a lot lately, and she’s distanced herself from the iconic neon green roots that defined her earlier career. She’s experimented with platinum blonde, bombshell blonde, chocolate brown, and curtain bangs. More recently she was a redhead.

Last year Billie Eilish opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about changing her hair color. “I had been wanting it blonde for a while, I don’t know what came over me,” she said. “I saw a fan edit when I had green hair. It was me with whatever hair color I had, and they just edited blonde hair on me and I was like, ‘Ah, it’s so sick; I want it.’”

But what it really came down to was that the green roots made her instantly recognizable in public. In 2021, Eilish said, “I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity.” Whatever she does with her hair next, we’re very much looking forward to it.
