The Best Spring 2023 Makeup Trends From New York Fashion Week

If you like to stay ahead of the pack, you’re in luck because NYFW kicked off this week, and with it, dropped the Spring 2023 makeup trends you need to know, if you’re an early adopter. September marks the beginning of a month-long series of shows across New York, London, Milan and Paris, and it coincides with that back-to-work need for a refresh and renewal.

We were due a change of scenery, but as we dust off our velvety lip colors and rich eyeshadow shades for autumn, the folks on the runway are busy giving us a taste of what we’ve got to look forward to when the sun comes out again after autumn/winter.

Want something out-there? Try the forehead paint at Marni, which used the space between brows and hairlines as a canvas to create artwork A punk theme emerged with studded skin at Rebecca Minkoff, where models wore faux piercings either side of the bridge of their noses and on their septums. And at Tommy Hilfiger, models had grungey dark eyeshadow and liner, plus a couple had bleached brows.

A little too OTT for you? The majority of the beauty looks we’ve seen so far were kept pretty neutral, with teensy pops of interest for makeup minimalists who like a bit of a twist. At Monse, traditional black liner was swapped out for a streak of lime green. And at Naeem Khan chartreuse eyeshadow embellished lids, but skin and lips looked bare and fresh. Prabal Gurung gave models an inner eye accent with icy white shadow kept just in the inner corner, while others were given a colour pop eyeshadow with bright shades of purple.

Soft spring-appropriate smokey eyes reigned supreme at Altuzarra and Jason Wu and we love the petal lips and cheeks at Ulla Johnson, which saw just-bitten colour focused in the centre of lips, then diffused out and a subtle flush applied to cheekbones. We’ll be recreating it as soon as the good weather returns.
