Another year, another Grammy Awards. In 2021, stars dazzled with choppy mullets, shimmery eyes, and fluttery lashes. This year, they leaned toward unconventional hair colors, more glittering accents on the eyes, and twisted updos.

More than a handful of our favorite artists attended the 64th annual Grammy Awards to perform and accept awards. For the second year in a row, Trevor Noah kept us entertained throughout the night. Billie Eilish, BTS, and Lil Nas X were just a few of the artists that took our breaths with their performances. They were also nominated for several awards alongside Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R, and the Hot Girl Captain, Megan Thee Stallion.

While the awards and performances were entertaining, our eyes were fixed on the beauty moments of the music-filled night. Here are our favorite hair, makeup, and manicures from the 2022 Grammys.

Doja Cat’s (Literally) Edgy Updo

Doja Cat is known for trying interesting hairstyles and colors, and she didn’t disappoint with the flipped ends and twisted braids that she wore to the Grammys. Hairstylist Jared Henderson, better known as JStayReady, gave a breakdown of the edgy half-up, half-down style on his Instagram. He twisted the front-middle of her hair into Bantu knots, then he slicked the rest of the hair in the front into a ponytail to create the look. The look doesn’t end there — Doja Cat has very short bangs that were curled slightly with long, straight tendrils of hair on either side of her face.

Cheri Moon’s Intricate Braids

We were impressed by singer Cheri Moon’s bangs and elaborately braided ponytail, to say the least. Her lengthy bangs were straightened and fell right above her eyebrows. Her hair was styled into a high ponytail with three twisted jumbo braids. The rest of her hair was wrapped around the base of the ponytail.

Laverne Cox’s Magenta Waves

Laverne Cox dipped into a bright hair color for the Grammys with vintage-looking magenta waves. Her dark brunette roots created a slight ombré effect. In a statement, hairstylist Kiyah Wright said the inspiration for the look was “vintage John Galliano 1920’s hair.” After cleansing the hair, she curled Cox’s hair. At the front, she added finger waves using Pantene Gold Series Intense Hydrating Oil and hairpins. She pulled the curled hair into a low ponytail before adding the fascinator on top.

The bright color in her hair seemingly served as the inspiration for her makeup. Matte dark violet and fuchsia eye shadows were smoked out on her lids and lower lash line, and a sparkly pink shade was painted onto the middle of her lids. Her eyes were lined with a metallic gold that shines next to the pink and purple hues. Her ombré lips were lines with an eggplant hue, and a magenta color was painted on her inner lips.

Japanese Breakfast’s Matchy-Matchy Everything

Michelle Zauner from the pop band Japanese Breakfast was determined to look as bright as the sun with her monochromatic yellow look. Her sharp canary-yellow eyeliner extended past her eyebrows and immediately caught our eyes  The liner matched the color of her dress and the almond-shaped jelly nails with 3D pineapple-shaped blobs.

Billie Eilish’s Beetlejuice Hair

Grammy-nominated pop singer Billie Eilish reminded us of Lydia from Beetlejuice with her jet black half-up, half-down hair. Pieces of her choppy black hair stuck out all around her head. Her bangs were sleek and straight, completely covering her eyebrows.

DJ Millie’s Golden Graphic Eye

DJ Millie wowed us in all black with platinum-blonde faux locs and a graphic eye. Her locs were styled into an updo with a fallen-out piece that frame her face. Her skin and eyes were glowing. Shimmery flecks of glitter shined on her lid. Her black eyeliner was extended into a sharp V shape at the end of her eye, and her lower lash line was rimmed with a bright white hue.

Doechii’s Ginger Ponytail

Doechii looked like a Black Rapunzel with her lengthy high ponytail that fell toward her feet. Her straight hair was a ginger hue, a shade that has been super trendy on TikTok lately. She had long wispy baby hairs around her hairline, and one of them was shaped into several loops on the middle of her forehead. Purple shimmery eye shadow glimmered over the smoked-out matte black shadow on her lids and lower lash lines.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Razor-Sharp Wings

Rodrigo kept it simple with shimmery light-pink shadows on her lids. Her black eyeliner is long and sharp and highlights her fluttery lashes well. A neutral pink hue was painted on her lips.

Hairstylist Clayton Hawkins added loose waves to Rodrigo’s hair using a 1.25-inch curling iron. He sprayed the curls with Dove’s Extra Hold Hairspray to make sure they last through the night. The healthy sheen on her lengthy waves, which fell all the way to her hips, is the result of Dove’s Hair Therapy Brilliant Gloss & Repair Serum that Hawkins raked through her hair.

Spice’s Messy Mermaid Bun

Spice looked gorgeous with her pastel teal hair that was styled into a top knot. This hairstyle is the epitome of a messy bun with tendrils of hair hanging out of the updo. A few baby hairs were slicked along her hairline.

Mickey Guyton’s Gold-Wired Braid

Country artist Mickey Guyton glowed on the red carpet with a shimmery fringe dress, gold eye shadow, and gold-wrapped braided ponytail. Her eyes were shining with metallic shadows on her lid and inner corner. The long wispy lashes complemented the golden shadow well. Her hair was slicked back into a low braided ponytail that reaches her thighs. The chunky braid was wrapped with gold wire from base to tip.

Halsey’s Burgundy Ombré

Halsey leaned into dark hues and matchy-matchy makeup with the burgundy ombré on their lips and hair. Hairstylist Marty Harper slicked the hair down with Tresemmé Tres Two Extra Hold Gel. Then, he used the Harry Josh Pro Tools Ceramic Flat Styling Iron to flip the burgundy ends and spritzed Tresemmé’s Tres Two Freeze Hold Hair Spray to keep the style lasting through the night. As the final piece the black Pierre Cardin hat was placed on their head.

Their short hair was mostly covered with a wide-brimmed black hat, but at the very ends, which were flipped, you can see the burgundy hair color.

Their eye makeup was simple with a blurred-out eyeliner, letting their glossy lips have the moment. The outer ends of her lips look like a glass of merlot. The dark hue blended into a cherry-colored color on their inner lips.

Lady Gaga’s Coiffed Updo

Lady Gaga went for a simple and classic look with a curled chignon, cat-eye, and pink lips. Her blonde hair was slicked into a rolled updo. Pieces of the hair were curled and rearranged in the front with a looped piece on her forehead. In addition to adding a small cat-eye using Haus Labs Liquid Eye-Lie-Ner, makeup artist Sarah Tanno painted white on her lower lash line, creating a contrast with the black eyeliner. Tanno lined her lips with Haus Labs RIP Lip Liner in the mauve Myth and then coated her lips in Haus Labs Le Monster Matte Lip Crayon in the pink Greaser.

H.E.R.’s Beachy Waves

H.E.R.’s curled hair always looks excellent. For the Grammys, she showed out with long waves that have the right amount of frizz to look lived in. Her tousled hair was parted down the middle and matches the ’70s vibe of her yellow-and-orange jumpsuit, which was inspired by Aretha Franklin.

Lil Nas X’s Hint of Blue

Before getting on stage to perform with Jack Harlow, the pop star was spotted on the red carpet with shimmery teal eye shadow in his inner corner that matches the blue on his white Balmain suit. Inner-eye accents have been a trend for a while now, and we love Lil Nas X’s blue version.

Saweetie’s Icy Pixie

Photo: Getty

Saweetie gave us two outfit changes for the awards show. First, she showed out in a hot pink two-piece skirt set before changing into this bedazzled black gown. Besides her gorgeous outfits, we were obsessed with her pixie cut. At the end of 2021, she popped out with a bleach-blonde buzz cut, but her hair has grown out a bit. Hairstylist Kendall Dorsey dyed the little bit of growth with Göt2B’s Metallics Permanent Hair Color in Metallic Silver, adding a silverish tint to her hair. He froze her side-swept curls in place with the brand’s Glued Freeze Blasting Spray.

Of course, she didn’t disappoint with her metallic manicure that matched the bedazzled detail on her dress. Her silver nails were full of iridescent gems and shaped into sharp stiletto points.
