Making sure your hair stays frizz-free, hydrated and healthy during the Middle East’s harsh summer months can be difficult, with numerous factors leaving curly hair damaged and straight hair disheveled. A combined onslaught of air-conditioning, prolonged sun exposure, chlorine, and heat styling all contributing to stressed, frizzy, and dehydrated hair. Sam Carpenter, hair artist and educator for Eideal, shares his favorite expert haircare tips for keeping locks strong and shiny all summer long.
Be protected
“Use a leave-in treatment designed to hydrate and protect the hair from the sun’s rays. It can help prevent color fading, and keep your hair moisturized and nourished.”
Stay hydrated
“Keep your hair hydrated through the summer months by renewing your hair routine. I like Essential Haircare Momo Shampoo and Conditioner, as it helps keep that moisture content topped up throughout the dry months. It also comes in a shampoo bar so it is perfect for summer holiday travelling.”
Take a break
“Send your hair on its own destressing holiday, and avoid excess bleaching or relaxing treatments. Hair can become dry in the summer months, then chemical usage can further damage the hair fibre and compromise it in the following months after summer.”
Turn down the heat
“Choose a flat iron or curling wand which allows you to control the tool’s temperature. Adding excess heat on dehydrated hair can compromise it further.”
Always rinse
“After swimming, use a shampoo designed to clarify the hair and remove chlorine from strands. This is essential in preventing further colour fade and damage, and fights against chlorine build up.”
