Bejeweled Beauty is Ruling the Runway at Couture Week

Who needs makeup when you can use jewels? Adorning the skin from the arms to the face, Schiaparelli’s bejeweled beauty looks at its Spring 2020 couture show were a surrealist’s fantasy. The artistic director for the house, Daniel Roseberry dreamed up the concept with makeup artist Erin Parsons and her team transforming it into a reality.

Undeniably, the standout look from the show saw model Agi Akur take to the catwalk in a cobalt blue creation. The material was covered in glittering jewels, reminiscent of vintage brooches. From there they traveled up her arms, to her shoulders, neck, and face. Next, models Cynthia Arrebloa and Sompa Antonio worked the runway donning bejeweled bones on their arms.

Swiss sculpture Alberto Giacometti was the inspiration behind Roseberry’s skeletal esque creations. Another reference was also drawn from Elsa Schiaparelli’s famed “skeleton” evening dress from 1938. The intricate look featured pearls, shells, and diamantes twisted together for an ethereal feel. As for makeup, it was kept clean and simple, with flawless skin offering just a hint of highlight.
