5 Scene-Stealing Beauty Lessons From London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week has never had a shortage of head-turning hair and makeup looks, and this year was no different. There was an array of bold beauty statements on the runway, including Versus Versace’s graphic cat-eyes, Shrimp’s glitter-flecked lips, and Temperley London’s outfit coordinating head scarves. Keep reading for five beauty takeaways from LFW that play equally well on and off the catwalk.

#1: Henna is a sure-fire win

At Antonio Berardi, models, including Alana Arrington, Grace Bol, and Dilone, took to the runway sporting intricately-applied curlicues and swirls of white, silver and rustic-colored henna designs on their hands dreamed up by artists from London-based henna bar, Pavan Mehndi.

#2: Yes, graphic eyeliner is still cool

Winged eyeliner in all shapes and sizes ruled the New York Fashion Week runways, and it played equally as strong across the pond. At Versus Versace, Charlotte Tilbury created punkish, overdrawn cat-eyes that were inspired by Amy Winehouse. Models at J.W. Anderson sported a graphic strip of black pigment across their lower lash line, while backstage at Erdem, a thin, feline flick was all that was needed to make a beauty statement.

#3: There’s a quick way to elevate the braid

The low-slung, single braid got an easy upgrade at Temperley London, where it came adorned with artfully-secured head scarves in a variety of colorful prints. The look was completed with a swipe of bold, crimson lipstick.

#4: Foundation can be like second skin

Rather than cover up their sun-kissed spots and freckles, backstage makeup artists let the models’ natural beauty shine through at Burberry, Simone Rocha, and Christopher Kane.

#5: Glossy, glittery eyeshadow is the quickest party trick

High-shine eyes took center stage at Topshop Unique and Emporio Armani, where a monochromatic wash of matte eyeshadow was eschewed in favor of pops of sparkle on the lids.
