Ariana Grande is no stranger to the spotlight and the fact that it can be a little too harsh sometimes. In a recent Tiktok video, the “Side to Side” singer opened up about comments on her body and the judgment it has been subjected to.

“You have talked a lot about it [my body] over the past decade or longer so I’d like to join in this time,” she says in the video. While stardom certainly seems glamorous, in the digital age where celebrities are accessible at all times, comments on physical appearances rush in unfiltered on social media.

The vulnerability shown by Grande is just the latest in a list of celebrities including Selena Gomez and Adele, affected by unrealistic beauty standards and fans’ ability to comment on everything publicly. Recent changes in her weight caused users across social media, including her own fans, to wonder whether the singer was unhealthy leading to critical comments about her body.

In her video, she urges people to stop making comments on anyone’s body, saying “the body that you have been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.” The singer added, “I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy but that in fact wasn’t my healthy.”

Grande also talked about how “healthy can look different” on different people and urged everyone to be mindful of the fact that “you never know what someone is going through”, ending her video with a supportive and loving message for anyone watching. “I think you’re beautiful, no matter what you’re going through, no matter what weight, no matter how you like to do your makeup these days, no matter what cosmetic procedures you’ve had or not or anything. I just think you’re beautiful and wanted to share some feelings. Have a very beautiful day, and I’m sending you a lot of love.”
