Grey Hair is Trending at Cannes

Not so long ago, women were taught to dread going grey. But, as Andie MacDowell made clear on the Cannes 2021 red carpet at the premiere of Annette on Tuesday evening, it’s now unequivocally the shade du jour. And judging by how good she looked, you’d be a fool not to embrace it too.

Showcasing her new peppery brunette shade (she started to go grey over lockdown), MacDowell, who is 63, swapped show-stopping jewellery for voluminous curly hair that did all the talking required. Her cloud of curls was the perfect partner to a blue beaded Prada gown, and she added make-up to match. She wore a pearlescent silver hue around her dark eyes and a warm flush of dark rose on her lips and cheeks (care of L’Oréal’s Gloss Signature Plump in Escalate and Life’s A Peach Glow Mon Amour respectively), for a beautifully radiant complexion.

MacDowell was also joined by Helen Mirren, whose silver-white top knot was another of the night’s best hair looks, and Jodie Foster who sported some flattering grey strands around her face, demonstrating an excellent way to allow hair to grow out.

Flying the flag for a hair color that was once avoided, it was only a few weeks ago that Sarah Jessica Parker also showed off her roots in a photograph taken as she started filming the new Sex and The City reboot. Viva la grey revolution!
