Emirati perfumer Amna Al Habtoor is leading the way for fragrance in the region. The founder of the much-loved label Arcadia, she pushes boundaries whilst celebrating the culture of the region. Expanding her empire further she unveils a new boutique that houses her Edition 1 and Edition 2 blends, alongside a new limited-edition fragrance “Bounded”.

Why did you decide to launch a boutique?

I always wanted to open my own boutique and to let people experience Arcadia’s journey and understand the narrative behind each fragrance. But I wanted to launch my own boutique at the right time, after relaunching a more sustainable approach last year, I felt like Arcadia was finally ready to open its flagship store.

Talk to us about the concept?

Simple yet edgy with straight lines throughout and a distinct industrial feel, the boutique will have a concrete counter, floor to ceiling shelves showcasing the range of scents, we’ll also include an art installation for photography that will be changed on a regular basis.

Who designed the space?

I worked very closely with our fit-out company, Vitamin, to ensure the design of the store was a true representation of the concept of our brand. I’m delighted by the way they have encapsulated my ideas and look forward to welcoming customers to showcase what we have achieved.

Talk to us about your new fragrance “Bounded”?

Bounded is our new Limited Edition, sold in a minimalistic box with a 100ml and 15ml together. The idea of how we are presenting this fragrance is tied heavily to the narrative, because you can carry the 15ml wherever you go, but remain “bounded” in your roots (oriental notes).

Bounded also bookmarks a new chapter in Arcadia’s journey with the opening of our flagship store.

What memories does the fragrance evoke?

Bounded is a fragrance that reminds me of home and my roots. No matter where I travel around the world, I always miss home and take it with me wherever I go.

Oriental and Arabic fragrances are also creating international appeal, which I was very conscious of when creating Bounded. It’s my own take on a fragrance that reminds me of my roots, which was integral to creating the narrative for the perfume – “We ventured into the furthest ends of this earth. Magnetized, we find our way back. Bounded, we remain rooted in our spirits.”

What are the notes?

 Top: Saffron, Rhubarb, Honey

Heart: Rose Absolute, Turkish Rose, Carnation, Toffee

Base: Amber, Oud, Patchouli

Which was your favorite note to work with?

I particularly loved working with Saffron and Toffee because both are edible notes which I love using in my fragrances as it gives scents a unique twist.
