Subtle contouring and high-gloss intonations are key to Lucia Pica’s latest collection for Chanel’s Cruise 2019 collection. Inspired once again by East Asia, this is the second chapter in Pica’s exploration of the colors and textures she found in the region. Taking photographs on the streets of Tokyo and Seoul, she draws details from these stills. Evolving and elevating them into a collection every woman can use, she offers a fresh approach for the season. “I want to let go without looking plain in summer which, in makeup, is usually the relaxed season,” explains Pica.
A key in the collection is her use of gloss. “With a lipstick and a gloss, you can create a special effect every quickly,” Pica says. “You feel glamorous quickly, without needing to make much effort. This is easy glamor.” For Pica experimentation is key. Although the collection features vivid colors these can be matched freely, layering them on top of one another. There are also more neutral tones with peachy-beige and golden chocolate tones being universally flattering. For many of the formulas fingers can also be used for the application, adding to the ease of the collection.
