When it comes to beauty, you can often find some of the best and most effective ingredients hiding away in your cupboards, fridge and fruit bowl. Avocado on the turn? Instead of making toast why not whip it up into a face mask? You see where we’re going. We called upon three beauty experts in the region to reveal their beauty recipes for everything from glowing skin to fighting acne.

While I usually love using products from my favorite brands, this is one DIY recipe I swear by. It’s a simple kaolin clay mask and rosewater mask that gives the pores a deep cleanse and softens the skin without drying it out. It’s super easy! For those with skin on the oilier side, you can also substitute Kaolin clay for bentonite.

Method
– Add rose water to the clay and mix in a bowl to form a paste. Calendula oil can be added to provide a soothing and calming effect.
– Apply to the face and wait for it to dry.
– Remove with warm water and follow up with your favorite moisturizer. I sometimes use Jojoba oil and let it soak in overnight!

I learned about this facemask while I was researching ways to combat my own acne issues. I love it because it is simple and effective. It consists of only three ingredients and one of them is the one item in my toiletries bag I cannot live without tea tree oil! I talk about this ancient antibacterial oil a lot on my Instagram page and owe my acne-free skin today to it.

Method

– Mix one tablespoon of honey, three drops of tea tree oil (make sure you buy this from the pharmacy) and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda in a bowl.

– Spread the mixture on your face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.

– Rinse off well. Repeat two to three times a week to see major results.

This concoction of all-natural ingredients works wonders on giving your skin an amazing glow. The turmeric especially as it can brighten skin with its natural tint and also contains anti-inflammatory properties. Added to this the honey is an anti-bacterial that helps banish any breakouts. Alongside this face make I also like to scrub my zone, especially my nose, with a combination of sugar and coconut oil.

Method

– Take one tablespoon of raw honey, one tablespoon of organic turmeric powder and a tablespoon of yogurt.

– Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl

– Apply to dry skin and leave on for 15 minutes.

– Rinse off with warm water and a washcloth. Apply once a week for the best results.

As with all new formulas including DIYs, please make to do a test patch on a small area of your skin first to rule out any allergies/irritants before applying it on your face.
