Red lipstick is a long-standing symbol of strength and female empowerment. So it’s hardly surprising that a bold red lip was spotted on many A-listers who attended Sunday’s British Academy Film Awards wearing all-black in solidarity with the #TimesUp movement. Black Panther actor Lupita Nyong’o accessorized her Elie Saab number with a cranberry-painted pout. An outspoken member of the #TimesUp initiative, Tessa Thompson demonstrated a classically elegant look in the form of a sleek updo, glowing complexion, and a crimson mouth. And Jennifer Lawrence, with her sun-kissed skin and deep vermillion lip, evoked strength on the red carpet.
Other notable beauty trends that swept the red carpet included soft, understated hair and makeup that served as a beautiful contrast to the sea of black gowns. Salma Hayek elevated her Gucci dress with subtle rose-colored lipstick, fluttery eyelashes, and a dusting of russet powder across the hollows of her cheekbones. Smoldering eyes also found a fan in Angelina Jolie, who raked her brunette lengths out of her face to further draw attention to her dramatic eye makeup.
