Renowned Tunisian-Egyptian actor and lawyer Hend Sabry took home the Best Actress Award at the 2019 Carthage Film Festival yesterday. She received the award for her phenomenal performance in director Hinde Boujemaa’s film Noura’s Dream.
Sabry took to Twitter to express her gratitude to her fans by posting pictures of herself with the Best Actress award, saying the feeling was “indescribable.” Sabry plays an intense role in the drama which tells a heart-touching story of a wife and mother named Noura. She tries to flee from the control of an abusive husband while reflecting on her desire of starting a new life with a new beginning and the love of her life, Lassad.
Sabry’s portrayal of Noura in the movie earned appreciation from various festivals around the world. After winning the prestigious Best Actress Award at the third edition of the El Gouna Festival, the film also won the Golden Tanit award for the Best Feature Film at the Tunisian awards.

This is not the first time the Cairo-based actress has done her nation proud. Earlier this year, she became the first Arab to join the prominent jury of the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a debut film, at the 76th Venice Film Festival which had taken place in Rome.
“I am proud to be one of the jury members of Venice Film Festival and I feel more proud that veteran directors Emir Kusurica and Antoinette Lio will be the jury presidents. I am happy this participation coincides with the screening of my movie ‘El-Feel-el Azra’a (The Blue Elephant) Part 2’ which achieved huge success in all the Arab countries. I wish to be a good Arab ambassador in the oldest festival in the world and one of the three most important festivals in the world,” said Sabry on her Instagram account.
