ZAC Zac Posen

What does the path from #CookingWithZac to clothing by Zac look like? That was the question Posen addressed with his little sister line’s Resort outing, a riff on his love of the culinary arts, writ large. Those who follow the designer on Instagram are well versed in both his talents in the kitchen and his green thumb. Here they came to life in ways both subtle (laser-cut leather in homage to lacy slices of lotus root) and more literal (the cornucopia of Technicolor fruit that spilled out over a sweat suit). A punchy floral jacquard was inspired by Posen’s own Pennsylvania garden, while a quail egg’s speckles stood in for your usual polka dots on neoprene dresses and coats. Call it the result of all the domesticity in his inspiration or perhaps Posen is doing his part to dispel lingering notions about his brand as formalistic, but the overall takeaway here was one of new ease. The designer expanded on his loosened up shapes of Fall, sending out swingy tops, fluted skirts, and simple midis. Those separates struck a balance between the forgiving, the functional, and Posen’s signature aesthetic—a skill that will come in handy for his new gig outfitting Delta’s 60,000 flight attendants.
