A.L.C.

With both the ’70s and ’90s and coasts east and west on her side, how could Andrea Lieberman lose? The A.L.C. designer has a great eye for tapping into the industry’s preoccupations and riffing on them in a way that befits her contemporary customer. Lieberman name-checked Anita Pallenberg for Resort, but it was a pleasure to see the influence of rock’s proto-witchy woman play out in subtler ways than it has at other labels, as in a pair of nice-looking paisley jacquard flares. Indeed, as palpably vintage-y as things got was with ’70s-tinged rust hues and foulard-print separates and dresses, most of the clothes had modern edge and ease, and their inherent styling possibilities were upped, thanks to quirky add-ons like neck and arm warmers (both surprisingly sexy when teamed with an off-shoulder knit).
