Zuhair Murad

2015 was a fast-paced year for Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad, who dressed a multitude of A-list celebrities including actress Sofia Vergara (for her wedding) and singer Jennifer Lopez (for her tour). But if guests to the Spring 2016 couture show were expecting a showbiz affair on the catwalk, they instead witnessed a very different facet of Murad’s design prowess. The couturier showcased a collection dubbed “Amour-en-Cage” (Caged Love), which featured a multitude of long and short hoop skirts and whalebone bodices. At times, the structured silhouettes gave way to loose, glittery gowns in ash and rosewood shades, but clearly, this season the designer was intent to tie up his muse (pun intended) in basques—long corsets that extend below the waist. If love cannot be a perfect affair, Murad is set on assuring that his muse’s shape is faultless.
