Last week, we published a snapshot of what to expect at the upcoming “Meet d3,” now, due to popular demand, we are bringing you the total, most complete guide to the regional multi-sensory fashion, music, design, and food event of the year. Running from April 2nd to 4th at the Dubai Design District, artists, entertainers, and industry professionals from the region and the world will gather across three show spaces: the main stage, the Njal space, and the temporary structure Resid3nt.
THURSDAY, APRIL 2ND
6PM—12AM
Opening the event will be a screening of Raw Metropolis, a short documentary, written and directed by Amirah Tajdin, and featuring a series of portraits showcasing the influence of street and urban culture in Dubai—and if you can’t make it for the 6pm show, other screenings will take place throughout the three-day event.
Next, take in a talk with Mr. Brainwash (MBW). The Paris-born, LA-based filmmaker and street artist (real name Thierry Guetta) and Banksy associate has sold work for five-figure sums. Featuring work that fuses historic pop imagery and contemporary cultural iconography to create his own version of pop-graffiti art, Mr. Brainwash will also screen his film—more on that further on in the schedule.
For those keen on an interactive experience, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will offer glass blowing workshops by Czech Republic-based Lighting Brand Lasvit—just make sure to book in advance.
As for the music portion, Mashrou’ Leila, the Lebanese five-member alternative rock band, will take the stage, followed by English songwriter and musician John Newman. Newman is best known for his single Love Me Again while other hits include Feel the Love and Not Giving In. Algerian entertainer Mehdi Haddad will also perform, known for his “electric oud” sound and his critically acclaimed album Kalashnik (2008) performed with his band Speed Caravan. DJ Luke: Horsemeat Disco will also take the stage while, Muhaisnah Four, Dalt Wisney, and Cee featuring Darren Ashley will all perform in the Njal Space and DJ datdatdat, Safe-t, Ez Riser, and Miss PM will spin at Reside3nt.
Throughout the three days, chow down on a food collaboration signed Moroccan-born pop artist Hassan Hajjaj and award-winning restaurateur Mourad “MOMO” Mazouz who will offer yet another culinary treat in the Andy Wahloo tent. Alternatively, take in British culinary sensation Bompas & Parr, known for frequently staging outstanding food events including architectural jelly banquets and multisensory flavor fireworks and who will create a bespoke experience at the Meet d3 event.
