The highly anticipated “Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience” created and hosted by Vogue Italia’s Editor In Chief, Franca Sozzani, and coordinated by Senior Editor, Sara Maino, revealed the cover of its “Dubai Guide” on twitter, via the publication’s PR agency, earlier this week.
While 250 brands are expected to participate at the global fashion event, held on October 10th at The Dubai Mall, eight newcomer designers, hand-picked by Vogue Italia’s team of editors, will present their respective runway shows on the evening of the event, from 6pm onwards. Paying homage to Dubai’s multicultural aspect, the selected designers are not solely from the region, but also from abroad and include Wadha Al Hajri from Qatar; Mohammed Ashi from Saudi Arabia; Razan Alazzouni also from Saudi Arabia; Lulwa Al Amin from Bahrain; Ituen Basi from Nigeria; Simone Rocha from Ireland; Andrea Incontri from Italy; and Esme Vie from Russia.
In an official press release, Franca Sozzani confirmed the event’s focus on discovering new talents: “The Dubai Mall is a Fashion World. Vogue Italia is the Fashion Magazine. To make an event together means to welcome all the people who love fashion, and also to give an opportunity to young talents to show their creativity. I can say there is true talent in the region and I am excited to see more during the mentoring sessions I will be giving in the run-up to the event.”
Along with the runway shows, the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience will celebrate an extended retail shopping tour in the form of an Haute Couture exhibition held at the atrium near Bloomingdale’s. Featuring iconic pieces by Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Armani, Valentino, Giambattista Valli, Chanel, Dior, Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Givenchy,, a further exhibition held in the grand atrium of the mall, celebrating 25 years of Vogue Italia through the magazine’s outstanding covers.
Moreover, social awareness, such as charity and sustainability, is also a main focus of the event. A gala dinner held at the Pavilion and the sale of products, especially created for the event by the participating stores, will raise funds for Dubai Cares. The initiative, founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, works to improve children’s access to quality primary education in developing countries. On the sustainable side, the Waterfall Atrium will be dedicated to eco-design only and will showcase educational and artistic short films, next to the work of emerging eco-designers, previously selected through Vogue’s Scouting Manifesto.
