Vionnet

Vionnet’s owner and self-taught designer, Goga Ashkenazi, has been making a mess of the brand for several seasons now and rightly appointed professionally trained designer Hussein Chalayan as the ready-to-wear creative head this year. Chalayan tried to make things right by showcasing a Vionnet Spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection that featured an edit of gowns in earth tones, which paid tribute to the house’s original founder.

Founders: Madeleine Vionnet

Owner: Goga Ashkenazi

Designers: Hussein Chalayan

Year Established: 1912

Spring 2016 Inspiration: Madeleine Vionnet’s original bias-cut plissé gowns.

Star Pieces: The olive green plissé dress and the powder pink and baby blue column dress.

The Middle Eastern Sale: The ethereal collection features a few column gowns reminiscent of Madeleine Vionnet’s bias-cut dress.

Drawback: At times, the draping appeared to be quite an undertaking.
