Valentino’s Rockstud Collaboration with This Famous Artist Will Move You

In Japanese, the “Wabi-sabi” philosophy translates to “perfect imperfection.” Its premise is that nothing lasts, is finished, or is perfect. Perhaps, but a glimpse of the unisex capsule collection, unveiled as a first look on Style.com/Arabia today has us thinking otherwise.

Collaborating with acclaimed artist Vanessa Beecroft, Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli feature the Rockstud Untitled capsule collection (which notably offers binding golden studs instead of seams) presented via a live performance that translates the essence of a “perfect wardrobe.” Here, timeless, unisex pieces—the trench, the crew neck sweater, white shirt, and peacoat—are featured on a human formation.

“We wanted to render the unisex items unique, we therefore worked on the Rockstud Untitled Collection
and on the idea that signs are the element that make objects and human beings unique. We used golden
studs to render the items immediately recognizable,” explained Maria Grazia Chiuri. Indeed, while the formation and offering is a collective work, its overarching idea reaches out to the viewer in an intimate way.

Certainly, this is a concept that will resonate in the Middle East. In this region where we are bound together by our traditional dress—to echo Chiuri—it is the details that make each of us unique.
