With the opening of Valentino’s new flagship store in the IAPM mall in Shanghai earlier this month, the Italian luxury brand presented a special, made-to-measure collection named Shanghai 2013.
The new collection was designed by Valentino’s Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, and described as a seasonless, ‘red manifesto’ collection of 82 womenswear looks that plays with the various shades and associations of the color red.
With the red hue as a guiding thread—a color that the Italian brand considers to be ‘integral to Chinese culture’ and that makes a nod to Valentino Garavani’s penchant for vibrant ‘rouge’—Chiuri and Piccioli introduce bold silhouettes with a focus on surface design. The designers played with animal prints, camouflage, and kaleidoscopic patterns, as well as ethnic-inspired embroideries.
‘Shanghai 2013’ will be sold in Valentino flagships worldwide starting April 2014.
