You know the Insta Girls—Cara, Karlie, Joan, et al—but what about the Insta brands? The app’s effect on luxury fashion can’t be understated, and in an era when a double-tap is as valuable as a visit to a brick-and-mortar store, many runway labels are keen to broaden their social reach.
The current barometer of success is one million followers, a denotation that, while small compared with the 43.5 million Beyoncé boasts, sets a runway label apart in the online conversation. The latest label to cross that threshold is Alexander Wang whose namesake brand surged past 1M yesterday. For Wang, the Instagram boost can only help the rumored negotiations to sell a stake of his brand to a private investor.
