Following baking, strobing, and clown contouring, the face-sculpting craze now adds “tan contouring” to the list of unconventional contouring techniques. Dubbed “tontouring,” this contouring method was developed by the founder of Cocoa Brown, Marissa Carter, and doesn’t call for any makeup products.
Instead of using bronzers, powders, and other contouring tools to define your features, “tontouring” employs a self-tanner to provide a more natural finish. The highlight of this method is that you only need to contour your face once a week as opposed to every day. “This technique gives you the opportunity to wake up looking naturally, perfectly contoured,” says Carter. Lazy girls, rejoice.
Read below to find out how to properly “tontour” and click through the slide show for five self-tanners to try.
1. Apply a gradual tanning moisturizer over your entire face as the base for a gentle, all-over glow.
2. Using a foundation stippling brush, apply a dark mousse formula (to avoid clogging your pores) near the hairline. The texture of the tanning lotion and mousse contrast each other so that they can be layered with ease.
3. Next, use an angled contouring brush for applying the darker self-tanner to sculpt your cheekbones and shade the sides of your nose.
4. For an even glow, use your fingertips to gently blend.
5. Allow the tanners to develop over the next couple of hours.
