Today Time magazine released its list of the 25 most influential teens of 2014, and due to the power of persuasion (i.e., magazine covers, fashion editorials, and product lines), the group is full of fashion-centric types.
Consider the younger Kardashians, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, who have their own clothing and nail lines. Kendall, for her part, has the high-fashion market cornered after recently walking in the Chanel, Givenchy, and Marc Jacobs Spring 2015 shows. But it appears walking in fashion shows and having product lines aren’t the only prerequisites to making this list. Fourteen-year-old Kiernan Shipka and 17-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz merely sit front-row at shows and have magazine editorials to their names. Even Royals singer Lorde, known for her all-black, witchy ensembles, has a fan in designer Karl Lagerfeld.
The country’s most powerful teens—Sasha and Malia Obama—prove they have their mother’s ability to sell out clothes in an instant. Thirteen-year-old Sasha’s ASOS unicorn sweater flew within hours after she wore it last November.
And even Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson, who has largely transitioned into acting (she currently stars in the Broadway play This Is Our Youth), still commands a fashion presence: Her online magazine reaches about 3.5 million users.
