Three Fifty Nine’s Fall 2016 Collection Paints a Pixelated Picture

Egyptian designer Marwa Sayed is behind the contemporary womenswear label Three Fifty Nine, a brand that banks on colorful prints. Since its inception (2013), Sayed has collaborated with regional artists by commissioning their work to feature across simple separates.

For Fall 2016, Sayed experimented with geometric motifs—pixels to be exact. And so, pixel prints and vibrant colors took center stage across a bevy of shift dresses, outerwear, skirts in flared and pencil renditions, and the odd jumpsuit. However, the emphasis of crop tops came across as dated, and the slew of monochrome numbers suggested that if the prints were stripped away, all that would remain would be basic cuts void of any recognizable signature. Ultimately, for someone so intrigued by geometric shapes, this print isn’t quite special enough to be featured so frequently, and the silhouettes are too one-dimensional.
