The Throwback
Nod to the '70s with a tie-neck blouse and over-the-top platforms like Anya Ziourova did outside the Paris shows. But skip the accessories—the modern woman is still a minimalist at heart.

Whether you’re looking at the runways, the streets, or the racks, the chances of coming across a pair of flared pants these days are high. The style’s resurgence comes hand in hand with this season’s psychedelic revival, but Nicolas Ghesquière probably deserves most of the credit. He showed colorful high-waisted flares at his Resort collection for Louis Vuitton back in May.
While the new flares share a shape with their 1970s predecessors, the way we’re wearing them now couldn’t be more different. In the past, flares were worn short with flats or low platforms—what else are you going to dance in?! Today’s styles, in contrast, work best with a heel and a bit of ’tude. Don’t miss our guide to flares in the slideshow.
