Dubai-based designers Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea of Taller Marmo have shown great potential in the previous Fashion Forward seasons by bridging European and Middle Eastern influences in their contemporary designs.
Taller Marmo’s first resort collection is a nod to the past; the Italian-Argentinian duo has merged old Hollywood elegance with references to the fishing trade of the Arabian Peninsula. The Resort 2016 line also draws inspiration from Swedish beauty Ingrid Bergman’s role as Ilsa Lund in the movie Casablanca; post-war jet-set glamour from the 1940s takes shape in the form of voluminous sleeves, cinched-waist jacket, hooded trapeze coats, and tropical leaf motifs. Nautical stripes in red, blue, and beige; loose silhouettes; and kaftan dresses are also part of the collection.
Refreshingly, the line lacks heavy embellishments and rich embroideries that are often used by designers in the region. The duo’s resort debut stands out for its Italian polished tailoring and light materials, such as linen jacquard and metallic transparent fil-coupe.
