Kings of Bling: Swarovski’s New Protégés

mmm and swarovski

Twice a year, Nadja Swarovski and her team choose a limited selection of designers with whom they will collaborate and support financially towards the production of their runway show.

This Spring/Summer 2014 season is no different and reveals an impressive list of 13 established and rising designers who will be given the opportunity to experiment with Swarovski crystals. Amongst the well-known designers are: Rodarte, Prabal Gurung, Giles, Alexis Mabille, and Mary Katrantzou, while other brands include Michael van der Ham, Huishan Zhang, Masha Ma, and Band of Outsiders.

“Our collaborations result in extraordinary experimentation within the fashion world and we are excited to see how each designer will use their artistry to explore the infinite creative potential of Swarovski crystal”, Nadja Swarovski told Elle UK.

The so called “Swarovski Designer Collective” originally grew out of a collaboration between the Austrian jeweler and Alexander McQueen back in 1999, and has since supported over 150 designers.

For those who don’t want to wait to discover these new collections on the runway, Swarovski recently came up with something to view in the meanwhile: a new jewelry line with Maison Martin Margiela, previewed during the brand’s latest Haute Couture show in Paris.

The Crystalactite collection fuses both stalactite-shaped Swarovski crystals and matte white resin, which underlines the Maison’s puristic style. The Couture-ish arm and ankle bracelets, head jewelry, and rings will be available in stores this December. A further co-branded line between the two houses is expected for Spring/Summer 2014 and will feature a more commercial range of accessories.
