Stella Jean

Following a stellar debut in 2012, Stella Jean skyrocketed to become the queen of African prints. Legions of fans wore her stripped men’s shirt and full skirts—a fresh, ethnic offering in the midst of a Westernized fashion market. However, both her excellent styling skills and the novelty are starting to wear off; see our Stella Jean Spring 2016 ready-to-wear highlights and drawbacks below.

Founder: Stella Jean

Owner: Stella Jean Ltd.

Designer: Stella Jean

Year Established: 2011

Spring 2016 Inspiration: Multi-cultural.

Star Pieces: The military green raincoat with embellishments on the sleeves; the varsity jacket with embroideries; and the black ruffled, tier dress.

The Middle Eastern Sale: The wax dress with pussy bow and bird print shirt underneath.

Drawback: What we love about Jean is how she makes contemporary clothing with vibrant prints; but this time, the South American meets African influences covered far too much ground and the coming together of prints and shapes was not seamless.
