Just when we thought 2012 couldn’t look any brighter for Stella McCartney—responsible for kitting the British Olympic and Paralympic teams and named both Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the Year at last month’s British Fashion Awards—it has been announced that McCartney will be made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Queen, according to the just released 2013 New Year Honors list. The Order, honoring British nationals or anyone who makes an impact for the United Kingdom, was founded by King George V. The honors, in descending order, include Knighthoods, Commander, Officer, and Member of the British Empire.
Today, the Stella McCartney brand includes “Stella”, a second line of everyday lingerie, a childrenswear line titled “Little Miss Stella”, a fragrance “L.I.L.Y.”, and stores across the world, with a New York Soho location being the most recent boutique to open. This past July, McCartney received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of the Arts London and announced that she will fund a scholarship for Central Saint Martins MA Fashion students. This most recent accolade is certain to make her father, Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE, very proud.
