The future of Saudi Arabia’s fashion and apparel industry looks promising. Last August, the National Committee at the Council of Saudi Chambers announced its decision to establish an association to promote the talents of Saudi women and support their fashion-related projects throughout the Kingdom.
In a conversation with Arab News, Fawzia Al-Nafee, an executive member in the National Committee, stated that a project for setting trade names for national fashion manufacturers had been recently submitted by Saudi women and well received by the members of the committee.
“The project will soon see the light, especially in view of the recent intentions of the National Committee to establish an association that cares for talented Saudi women, in all aspects of the industry,” stated Al-Nafee. In this context, 40 yet unrevealed female fashion designers will be the primary beneficiaries of this project. This includes selecting and registering a brand name for the manufacturing of national garments for women, men, and children.
Al-Nafee, who is a fashion designer herself and owns the first garment factory in Saudi Arabia, added that the project’s concept is already established, but that the trade names are still being selected and that new factories will open following the high demand for electronic machines for production.
“This first pioneer factory of its kind will operate within three months from now,” she explained. “It will produce 1,000 pieces a day for all categories of clothing, including formal outfits for schools, factories, hospitals, and other private and government sectors.”
