When we first introduced you to Lebanese-British designer Sarah Baadarani in October, 2013, the designer referred to her clothes as being “special but not loud” and with a focus on tailoring and draping. With the reveal of her free-flowing and sensual Spring 2015 collection, it appears that the label’s signature modern classicism is on course, even though it does appear to be taking a little holiday in Saint Tropez.
“With this season, I wanted the brand’s aesthetic sensitivity and usual refinement to be transformed into a collection that emanates a naturalistic joie de vivre.”
Organic textiles, like raw silk and linen, are featured in chic separates and long dresses while leather is woven to create a pair of tailored shorts, prints are hand-drawn, and fine scarves are transformed into linen and leather mini skirts. Asymmetrical accents in the form of iridescent tassels in citrus yellow add a sophisticated flare to the collection while a long-sleeved top is entirely decorated with miniscule beads strewn across a cotton and silk fabric to emphasis the collection’s delicate craftsmanship. Meanwhile, metallic knits and embroidered crochet pieces are cut and draped into loose, relaxed silhouettes evoking a natural and sexy appeal.
Speaking of her inspiration (Baadarani cites the characters played by Brigitte Bardot in Et Dieu Créa La Femme (1956) and Romy Schneider in La Piscine (1969)), the designer told Style.com/Arabia, “I imagined her walking barefoot on the beach, or lying on a hammock, and the warm breeze coming through to caress her skin no matter what she is wearing.”
