Salta Fall 2016: These Hobos are a Go-Go

Survey the work of the emerging designers that showcased at the Dubai Collections and Fashion Forward, and Kazakh label Salta will stand out as the brand that doesn’t belong, for all the right reasons. It’s always refreshing to see conceptual fashion on the runway, because it breaks through self-imposed design and creative boundaries. On that note, it’s important to highlight that while these designs were by no means new, this concept is uncommon to see here.

After the show, designer Saltanat Baimukhamedova explained (in Russian and via an interpreter) that the collection referenced Tibetan monks and the nomadic lifestyle of her countrymen. Admittedly, by the time the closing model placed her last foot in front of the other at an aching crawl, the audience was entranced.

As for the clothes, Baimukhamedova’s hero fabrics are but humble cotton and linen. She cuts them with a swooping hand to create organic shapes that cocoon the body, and treats the fabric so that it glazes, glistens, or appears in a deep charcoal matte.

Salta is a label that introduces its clients to conceptual ideas that serve as an extension to (or the initial thread to inspire) a panoramic lifestyle that is decidedly more hobo than boho. And with that in mind, Salta will get women excited about its clothes, especially when they discover the surprisingly reasonable price point at which this bridge brand retails.
