Images of a show-stopping fashion spread for W magazine have just been released, causing quite a stir on the web.
Featuring three generations of iconic black beauties: Rihanna (26), Naomi Campbell (44), and Iman (59) posing together for the first time, the stunning ladies were photographed by Emma Summerton and styled by Edward Enninful for W’s upcoming September issue.
The photo shoot was commissioned to accompany an interview celebrating Balmain creative director, Olivier Rousteing. Three years ago, Rousteing (now 28-years-old), became the youngest designer to head a Parisian fashion house, a feat not seen since Yves Saint Laurent took the reins at Christian Dior at age 21.
Of his model casting choice that expressed his vision for Balmain, Rousteing, a long-term advocate of diversity on and off the runway, told W: “’These women are inspiring to so many different people. Bringing them together represents the concept I’m working towards.”
Rihanna was the face of Balmain’s Spring 2014 collection; her status as a fashion icon seems to be going from strength to strength, and she is also fronting the cover of the September issue in a tribal-inspired shot by photography duo Mert & Marcus.
