As we pack for Cannes, we could only smile this morning seeing that Haute Couture designer, Rami Al Ali, had dressed former Destiny’s Child and American recording artist, Kelly Rowland for the Billboard Music Awards ceremony in L.A. We got on the phone with Rami at his home in Dubai and asked him first-hand to tell us about the experience.
Rami Al Ali: Hi! Yes, I’m pretty excited. I knew that her stylist was in touch with our showroom in L.A. He pulled a couple of looks and was doing a fitting on Friday. They decided to keep this look, and a couple of other ones. Of course, I’m sure that they pulled from other designers as well. With celebrities, you never know what the final decision will be until they walk the red carpet. The dress looked really nice on her and she is nominated on a couple of websites as being among the three best dressed looks. This number is from the Spring/Summer 2013 couture collection. It is made out of a special fabric that looks heavy and metallic but in fact is very light. It is lined with beige chiffon to give it fluidity. The back is really interesting, low and draped up to the waist. It is one of my favorite looks, very minimal, and chic.
