Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the first UAE Ladies Polo Tournament was hosted last weekend, by Ralph Lauren, in conjunction with Dubai Cares, at Dubai’s Desert Palm.
Sheikha Maitha herself, who also captained Team UAE at the event, led the ladies-only tournament.
There are so many good women athletes here, and I don’t think they get enough credit for the level they bring to the sport,” stated Sheikha Maitha. “For us women, even if we’ve played polo here, we’ve never had a women’s tournament before. I thought it was a good platform to showcase the level on which women are today.
The remaining three teams, Team Asia and two teams for Europe, consisted of some of the highest ranked international female polo players, including Thailand’s premier female polo player, Poy Bhinsaeng (Team Asia), Princess Anna Oettingen-Wallerstein from Germany (Team Europe 1), and Czech polo player, Katerina Zeka Dombiova (Team Europe 2).
The especially designed Ralph Lauren mesh shirts for the Ladies Polo Tournament are available for retail in the brand’s Dubai and Abu Dhabi boutiques. Twenty percent of proceeds from the sale of these shirts will to go to the philanthropic organization, Dubai Cares, which aims to improve children’s access to quality primary education in developing countries.
