On May 2nd, the “Great Kate Wait” came to an end when the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, gave birth to a baby girl. Two days later, Prince George’s sister now has a name. Kensington Palace has revealed today that the Princess will be called Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. She has been named after her grandfather, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Believed to be a week overdue, Princess Charlotte was born at 8.34am following a speedy delivery at St. Mary’s Hospital (the Duchess was admitted at 6am) and weighed 8lbs 3oz. She is the Queen’s fifth great-grandchild and is now fourth in line to the throne, following her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, and brother Prince George. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left St. Mary’s Hospital for Kensington Palace the same day Princess Charlotte was born and many turned to social media to express shock at how polished the Duchess appeared only 10 hours after giving birth. The Duchess emerged in a custom-made yellow Jenny Packham floral dress, nude Jimmy Choo heels, and a mane of beautifully styled hair.
Princess Charlotte is the first royal to take the title of “princess” in 65 years and is the highest ranking female in line to the throne.
