A Rare Glimpse Inside the Inner Workings of Prada

Miuccia Prada has long been a member of fashion’s ruling class, and not just because of her brilliant eye. The Prada company brings in a jaw-dropping 3.6 billion euros annually. Her husband and joint CEO, Patrizio Bertelli, has been a driving force in the brand’s success since the late ’70s and is responsible for adding women’s ready-to-wear, maintaining a sense of “utopian” calm, and knowing what’s going to sell. Bertelli took New York magazine inside Prada’s fabled Bergamo 21 factory in Milan, where he explained everything from their intricate shoemaking process to why Italians are “avant-garde” about their food.
