Nostalgic throwbacks gained momentum this year with ‘90s-inspired trends resurfacing onto the fashion radar while adult versions of your favorite childhood activities and animated characters also had a moment. Luxury designers brought out your inner kid with accessories collections that revolved around stickers and friendship bracelets. Meanwhile, coloring books got a very stylish makeover. From shopping your favorite childhood doll’s covetable closet by way of Moschino’s Barbie-themed collection to Olympia Le-Tan’s Disney collaboration, we round up seven 2015 fashion trends that made you feel young at heart this year.
The 2015 Fashion Trends That Made Us Feel Like a Kid Again
Collecting Stickers
Anya Hindmarch and Louis Vuitton had us collecting stickers all over again. This childhood pastime got a fashionable reboot through leather-embossed sticker decals that could be used to jazz up handbags, smartphones, and other accessories you thought might warrant a playful touch. Meanwhile, Charlotte Olympia released a collection of ballerinas that could be personalized with alphabet adhesive motifs.
All Dolled Up
Thanks to creative director Jeremy Scott’s Moschino Spring 2015 collection, we had the chance to live the Barbie dream this year—the adult way. Miniskirts, leather jackets, and dresses all splashed in the doll’s signature pink color dominated the collection. And since no Barbie is complete without her covetable accessories, Sophia Webster also collaborated with Mattel and released a playful collection of heels, flats, and sneakers for the doll.
Friendship Bracelets
Do you remember carefully crafting friendship bracelets with colorful strings that you would exchange with your BFF? This childhood accessory that symbolized the bond between best friends is now all grown up courtesy of London-based Monica Vinader. The designer’s collection of customizable friendship bracelets comes in precious metal finishes and gemstones and continues a childhood tradition with style.
Coloring Books
If you enjoyed coloring as a kid, then the grown-up coloring books featuring intricate illustrations, which gained a lot of momentum this year, are for you. British Vogue released a coloring book featuring illustrations of iconic dresses and gowns by Christian Dior and Balenciaga, making it the adult coloring book for the fashion girl that’s young at heart.
Where’s Karl?
If you enjoyed squinting for hours over “Where’s Waldo?” books, then the Karl Lagerfeld adaptation will be right up your alley. This illustrated book challenged readers to search for Karl in a sea of fashion’s familiar faces.
Down the Rabbit Hole
Known for her quirky, emboroidered book clutches, Olympia Le-Tan collaborated with Disney and released an Alice in Wonderland-themed Resort 2016 collection. Featuring ready-to-wear pieces and accessories, the charming collection is bound to feed your desire for Disney-themed fashion.
Pool Toys of Instagram
Inflatable aqua accessories dominated our social media feeds this summer. A fleet of floating swans, flamingos, sprinkled doughnuts, and ice-cream sandwiches were poolside fixtures in celebrity selfies and blogger vacation posts, and ultimately making pool toys the must-have summer accessory.
