You can call Phoebe Philo ‘Dame Phoebe’ from now on, as Céline’s reputed Creative Director has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to fashion.
Next to Phoebe Philo, make-up artist Pat McGrath, reputed for creating the finest runway make-up looks for the likes of Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana, amongst others, was also awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), for her accomplishments in the beauty and fashion industry, at the annual New Year Honors.
Other recent reputed professionals of the fashion industry who were awarded with the prestigious OBE include photographer Mario Testino, who received one earlier this year, and Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, after she designed Kate Middleton’s Grace Kelly-inspired royal wedding dress last year.
New Year Honors have been awarded on every January 1st since 1890. The awards are presented by, or in the name, of the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
